Next week Mars will officially oppose Pluto. I thought about saving this for the weekly transit post, but it’s a big enough deal that I want to get ahead of it. This is especially true since the opposition will be sustained in one form or another for about 6 months. There will be some breaks in between, especially around February and March, but the overall dynamics will still be in play.
It looks like this:
Mars at 29 degrees Cancer will oppose Pluto at 29 degrees Capricorn on Nov 3rd.
Mars enters Leo on November 3rd.
Pluto enters Aquarius on Nov 19th.
Mars turns retrograde at 6 degrees Leo on December 7th.
Mars at 1 degree Leo will oppose Pluto at 1 degree Aquarius on Jan 3rd.
Mars turns direct at 17 degrees Cancer on February 24th.
Mars reenters Leo on April 18th.
Mars at 3 degrees Leo opposes Pluto at 3 degrees Aquarius on April 26th.
So what does this mean?
It means that there is going to be a pervasive energy of tension, cutting ties, and gritting your teeth. It is going to suck.
This era, by which I mean the entirety of Pluto in Capricorn, has been hard. Financial systems have crumbled, government feels like a joke, and all the institutions that made up the bedrock of our society have shown their weaknesses. Our reality is changing, and I don’t think we can recapture any of what we lost. It’s gone. So it is only fitting that this transit is the last aspect (other than from the Moon) Pluto will receive before entering Aquarius. We’re cutting ties with the past.
But on an individual level, this transit will be difficult, especially if you have planets in the late degrees on cardinal signs or the early degrees of fixed signs. Mars opposite Pluto is a transit that requires action. Either you happen to it or it happens to you. You do not want it to happen to you.
I think the answer here is to look at the planets involved and find a way do what’s hard but necessary. Cut off the situations that are lingering and causing you strain. Roll up your sleeves and get to work. Do the hard thing.
On a personal note, this will be squaring by 29 degree Aries Jupiter. And I’m already feeling it. This week I started a new day job. And let me tell you, I am going to hate it. It’s going to be grueling work with ridiculous deadlines. The company does not seem to be particularly, uh, good. At least to its employees. But it’s highly paid and will allow me to get certain certifications that can further my career. And my family needed the money, so here we are.
I am sacrificing my peace and ease, my freedom (it’s in the financial security field, so multiple cameras and types of monitoring at all times), and even some of my morality (law-enforcement adjacent in ways I find questionable). My Jupiter is getting cut off at the knees. This is hard for me to do. But right now, the hard thing is the right thing.
So as you navigate the minefield of the next 6 months, I encourage you to ask what hard thing can help you move forward. Life is changing for all of us. How can you take control and do what’s right?
