Welcome to the series on weekly transits, out every Monday afternoon!
Now that Uranus and turned retrograde and Pluto has drudged back into Capricorn, many are feeling the vibe shift. There’s a chill in the air and raucous joy and frenetic energy of summer is on its way out.
The transits for this week reflect this transition.
Today, Mars squares Neptune. I’m glad it’s a holiday for many of us, because there’s a sense of “Ugh, what do I wanna dooooo? No, not that. Not that either. I don’t knowww.” I’m in that boat. I’m lucky enough to have the say off, and I can’t decide whether I want to practice the keyboard, finally start the painting that has been floating in my head for weeks, relax with a book, or, most likely, sit around and watch Arrested Development for the 3rd time and then get mad that I wasted my day.
And the general air of an ineffective Mars isn’t going anywhere. On Wednesday, Mars moves into Cancer, its least favorite sign. Here Mars is weak, emotional, and exhausted. It can also become hardened in a silly way as it overcompensates for its softness.
“Yes, I’m falling apart. Yes, I want to curl up in a ball and have someone hold me. But that means I’m WEAK. That means I’ve got to do this ALONE and if anyone helps me I’m FAILING.” It’s like walking around in a suit of armor all day every day. Sure, you’re protected, but it’s it a little hot and sweaty in there? How are you going to the bathroom? Are you sure this is the best choice?
It's important to get a grasp on this energy now, because Mars is going to be in Cancer for most of the next 6 months. Learn when to toughen up and when to be vulnerable. Learn when to push even when you want to cry, and when to let yourself cry even when you want to push. It’s a tough lesson, but we’ll all get ample time to figure it out.
On Friday, we get the last bit on summer breeze in the form of Mercury in Leo squaring Uranus. Enjoy your last burst of the sillies, say the weird, shocking stuff that pops in your mind, and make your creative plans. I’ve personally been going around to each person in my life and asking what they want me to paint for Christmas, which is a bot of a tradition these days. I’m all about the homemade gifts! This is fun because it allows me to brainstorm and sketch and do the fun parts of the creative process, and it also sets me up for success as I plan out the next four months.
Finally, on Sunday, the Sun opposes Saturn, and it will be time for all of us to get to work. This is officially Catch Up On Chores Sunday. No, it’s not relaxing, but slipping into clean sheets that night will feel so sweet.
